Questions About RevitalVision™

What is RevitalVision™?
It is a type of neural therapy designed to improve your near vision and night vision. It is done on a computer and consists of a series of 20 minute sessions that are customized as you go by the RevitalVision software. They adapt to your pace and your visual acuity. The program is available from our eye doctors.

Who can benefit from RevitalVision?
Currently there are three groups of people who can benefit from RevitalVision training:
People with presbyopia;
People who have had LASIK
People who have had cataract surgery, where the eye’s lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens.
RevitalVision is working on additional programs that will benefit those with amblyopia more severe myopia, myopic children, and those who want better sports vision.
How long does it take to improve your vision with RevitalVision?
You would complete training sessions two or three times each week. Each session takes 20 minutes to complete and there are 20 sessions in the program. That means the whole program can be done in ten weeks at two sessions per week, or a little less at three sessions per week. Most people notice improved vision about half-way along.
Could I get 20/20 vision from the RevitalVision training?
Yes, perhaps. It depends on how severe your vision problem is to start with. If you have severe myopia you would not achieve 20/20 vision, but you would certainly reduce your myopia. On average, the program improves a person’s vision by two lines on the Eye chart. That is a significant improvement in your quanlity of vision. It will also improve the quality of your vision by giving you enhanced night vision. For example, halos and starbursts around lights will diminish or disappear and you will be better able to identify dim shapes along the road as you drive.
How does RevitalVision work?
During each training session, the software presents you with a series of visual tasks using Gabor patches. These are abstract grayscale images of varying sizes and in varying clusters. They are named for one Dennis Gabor, who devised the mathematics for creating them.
You are asked to compare patches and make a response. By completing each task, you retrain your brain in how to detect contrasts between lighter and darker shades of gray. As you work through the series, the software grades your performance and adjusts the next task to match your visual acuity.
